Social Media Photographic Competition - closed on Friday 15 August 2025! Photographs were judged by the award winning and prestigious professional photographer, Russell Smith.
Winners were announced on our Social Media paged on Monday 18 August at 19h00!
See the winning pictures below and the criteria used by Russell to judge them:
First Prize:
Russell's comments: While sunsets are generally for me a no no this one has mood. It also has interest not only in the leading sky lines to the horizon but the colour reflected in the water and puddles washed over onto the boardwalk. This also create interest and add to the story. I like that it is not obviously Mouille Point but if you know Mouille Point, you know where this is and we all have all walked here at this time. While the horizon is pretty much in the middle of the image it works as the sky and sea / boardwalk both have equal interest.
Second Prize:
Russell's comments: Not only is this iconic Mouille Point but there is technical ability in getting this exposure right. I like that there is still light in the sky and this was most probably taken on a tripod to get the long exposure. One can see this in the light lines from the cars driving.
While there is distortion from the wide angle especially on the Lighthouse it too has nice leading lines which make for a pleasant composition. It also makes Mouille Point look alive with the night lights and ads an element of excitement to the area.
Third Prize:
Russell's comments: Even though the light is hard and most probably not the best time of day to take images it adds to the graphic nature of the shot.
The Lighthouse lined up with the trees straight on make a clean crisp image. The eye goes to the lighthouse but then to the anchor and while you there you notice the people as a bonus detail. The foreground palm also gives it nice depth.
Competition details below, showing prizes that were on offer (thanks to the generosity of our prize sponsors as, without them, the competition would certainly not have been as successful as it was)!
Special thanks to our the companies that sponsored our prizes!
